Logitech MX Keys S for two computers: what switches together?

The Logitech MX Keys S can help reduce the number of keyboards on a desk shared by two computers. Its usefulness depends on how you plan to switch the mouse and display as well: a keyboard connection is only one part of that arrangement.

This documentation-based guide explains the relevant features and their requirements. We have not tested switching reliability, typing feel or battery life.

What does the keyboard switch by itself?

Logitech describes Easy-Switch pairing for up to three devices, with Bluetooth or Logi Bolt connections. Its MX Keys S getting-started guide explains the pairing process and device-selection keys.

Start by deciding which computer belongs on each numbered channel. Pair and test one at a time, using a simple text document to confirm where typing appears. Keep that channel assignment consistent with any other devices you plan to switch.

For a work laptop and personal desktop, the useful first milestone is dependable keyboard input on both. Add more elaborate linking only after that basic arrangement is clear.

Can the mouse follow the keyboard?

Logitech's Enhanced Easy-Switch can link a supported mouse to a compatible keyboard, including MX Keys S. The current instructions require Logi Options+ running on all participating computers, supported devices connected through Bluetooth or Logi Bolt, pairing on each computer and up-to-date keyboard firmware. Windows and macOS are supported. See the Enhanced Easy-Switch requirements.

The feature is initiated from the keyboard. Switching only the mouse does not make the keyboard follow. It also does not provide clipboard or file sharing. These distinctions matter if you are comparing it with other multi-computer tools.

Before buying a matching mouse, check it against the current compatibility requirements. The Logitech name alone does not establish support, and an older receiver system should not be assumed interchangeable with Logi Bolt.

Check software access on both machines

A personal computer may be straightforward to configure while an employer-managed laptop restricts software installation. Confirm whether the required app is permitted before making automatic mouse switching the main reason for buying.

If only the keyboard's basic device switching is available, that can still be useful. You would need a separate plan for the mouse, such as its own supported device-selection control. Test the complete sequence rather than assuming the second device will follow.

Our wireless keyboard and mouse guide can help compare the pair as a working arrangement.

What happens to the monitor and other accessories?

Keyboard and mouse switching does not itself move a monitor's video input, a USB microphone or an external drive to the other computer. List the devices you need on each machine and decide how each one will connect.

For example, you might switch the keyboard and mouse wirelessly while selecting a different monitor input manually. That could be entirely adequate for occasional changes. If you switch several times an hour and share more peripherals, consider whether the sequence remains practical.

Part of the desk Decision to make
Keyboard Which paired channel belongs to each computer.
Mouse Supported automatic linking or a separate switching action.
Monitor How its selected video input changes.
Meeting audio Which computer owns the microphone and headphones.
External storage Where it stays connected and how files are accessed.

The point is to understand the workflow before buying several accessories to repair an incomplete plan.

Does a full-size keyboard suit the desk?

The MX Keys S includes a number pad. Consider how much you use it and where the mouse will sit when the main typing area is centred in front of you. A full-size keyboard can be useful for regular numeric entry while a compact one may give you more flexibility on a narrow surface.

Check the exact UK keyboard layout and whether the offer includes a palm rest. Logitech lists keyboard-only and palm-rest packages on the UK MX Keys S product page. Do not compare their prices as identical bundles.

For typing priorities beyond device switching, use our keyboard buying guide. Layout, key feel and desk position remain everyday considerations even when the wireless features are attractive.

Who should shortlist it?

Shortlist MX Keys S if you want a full-size keyboard for several devices and can describe how the rest of the desk will switch. Automatic mouse linking is a useful additional reason only when both computers and the selected mouse meet its requirements.

You can search Amazon UK for MX Keys S. Confirm the UK layout, edition and included accessories in the selected offer; this search link does not identify one verified seller or package.
